After four years of research, field trials and collaboration with farmers and stakeholders across Europe and beyond, the LEGUMINOSE project is coming to a close. On 19 October 2026, we will bring together project partners and speakers from global organisations like FAO, CGIAR, and the World Farmers’ Organisation for our final event in Rome and online.
Under the question “How can cereal-legume intercropping pave the way to a green transition?”, the event will showcase key results and lessons from LEGUMINOSE and look ahead to what is needed to bring intercropping into wider agricultural practice.
From research results to the future of intercropping
Throughout the day, LEGUMINOSE partners and invited experts will explore legume-cereal intercropping from various angles. In the morning, project partners will share what we have learned over the course of the project. We will cover key topics such as:
- Lessons from the LEGUMINOSE Living Labs and the practical implementation of intercropping
- Barriers and enablers for cereal-legume intercropping
- Sustainable crop protection and pest management
- Soil health and resilience
- Digital tools for supporting farmers, including the LEGUMINOSE Intercrop Model and Decision Support System
- Economic performance and business opportunities
- Policy support and pathways for scaling up intercropping
The afternoon will broaden the discussion beyond LEGUMINOSE, bringing together perspectives from research, policy and agricultural organisations to explore the future of intercropping and its role in more sustainable food systems.
A panel discussion on “What will it take to scale up?” will be followed by an open Q&A session and closing reflections on the key lessons from the project.
